I need to take out quite a bit of cash during my trip. Anyone know cheapest ATMs & daily withdrawal limits for foreign cards at Gambia ATMs?
During my Gambia trip, I mainly used Standard Chartered ATMs in Serrekunda. My Wise Visa worked fine with GMD 3,000 limits and GMD 150 fees. Trust Bank was also reliable with my Revolut Mastercard. I withdrew every few days to cover meals, transport, and market shopping. Cash was absolutely necessary since most places didn’t accept cards. ATMs were limited in rural areas, so I always planned ahead. Overall, Gambia’s ATMs worked but weren’t the cheapest - carrying USD as backup saved me stress.
ATM fees and low limits in Gambia are frustrating. My HSBC debit card at EcoBank only allowed GMD 2,500 per withdrawal with a GMD 200 fee. Machines often went offline or ran out of cash, especially on weekends. Independent ATMs had even worse rates and higher fees. Best advice: use Standard Chartered or Trust Bank in Banjul, withdraw the maximum, and keep USD or EUR as a backup since you may not always find a working ATM outside main towns.
I managed fine with ATMs in Gambia. Standard Chartered in Banjul accepted my Revolut Visa, allowing me to withdraw GMD 3,000 with a GMD 150 fee. Trust Bank also worked with my Monzo Mastercard. I withdrew every couple of days since limits were small, but it was enough for food, taxis, and local markets. USD was also easy to exchange, so I carried some as backup. Compared to other West African countries, Gambia ATMs felt fairly reliable in the cities.
In Gambia, the most reliable ATMs are from Standard Chartered, Trust Bank, and EcoBank. I used my Wise Visa at Standard Chartered in Banjul, with a withdrawal limit of GMD 3,000 (~$45 USD) and a GMD 150 fee. Trust Bank ATMs had similar limits with my Revolut Mastercard. EcoBank worked with my Monzo Visa, though sometimes went offline. ATMs are concentrated in Banjul and Serrekunda, so withdraw enough before heading to rural areas.
