Dont want to carry too much or too little. Whats the average cash people carry when travelling around Thailand?

I didn’t want to walk around with a lot, so I usually had 1,000-1,500 THB in my crossbody bag, and kept a backup stash of 2,000 THB hidden in my backpack. Most ATMs charge 220 THB per withdrawal, so I withdrew in chunks of 10,000 THB and rationed it out. Worked well for a 3-week trip.

I spent around 1,500 THB a day on food, local buses, hostels, and entry tickets. I’d usually take out 6,000-8,000 THB once a week to save on ATM fees. Used Wise card for big spends like flights or scuba booking. General rule: carry enough for 2-3 days, never your full trip cash.

When I was in Koh Lanta and Phi Phi, most places were cash-only, especially hostels and tuk-tuks. I withdrew 5,000 THB every 3-4 days and kept it split between my bag and room locker. Definitely more cash-heavy once you're outside big cities like Bangkok or Chiang Mai.

Kept around 2,000-3,000 THB daily, rest on card. I used my card for hotels, malls, and Grab rides, but still carried 2,000-3,000 THB in cash per day. Enough for street food, transport, and day trips. ATMs are everywhere, so no need to carry massive amounts. Plus, I didn’t feel safe with too much cash when bar-hopping or taking boats.
