Trying to avoid paying crazy ATM fees while traveling in Vietnam. Anyone found ATMs that are free for foreign cards? Would love specific banks or locations if possible.

During my stay in Hue and Hoi An, I looked around for low-fee ATM options and ended up relying mostly on TPBank and MB Bank. TPBank had zero withdrawal fees at a kiosk in the Big C Supermarket in Hue, and MB Bank charged 66,000 VND in Hoi An, which was the most. Agribank charged 55,000, ACB same also VietinBank also at 55,000 VND. Also, I recommend doing larger withdrawals less frequently to reduce total fees, since daily limits are often low. Wise and Monzo both worked fine, but local fees are the bigger issue.

If you’re in Ho Chi Minh City, I found BIDV ATMs to be fairly decent. They charge around 55,000 VND per withdrawal, which was the lowest I saw outside of TPBank. I used one on Le Lai Street in District 1, close to the bus station, and it worked smoothly with my Charles Schwab debit card. Note that many ATMs have 2-3 million VND withdrawal caps, so you may end up paying multiple fees unless you find one with higher limits. Agribank was not bad also at a recently increased fee to 55,000 per withdrawal!

I used my Revolut Mastercard at a Sacombank ATM in Da Nang near My Khe Beach and was hit with a 55,000 VND fee. After that, I tried a TPBank LiveBank machine inside a petrol station near the Dragon Bridge and surprisingly no fee. I even took out 3 million VND with zero local charge. Not all TPBank ATMs are free, though, the regular ones at airports charged me. Stick to the purple “LiveBank” ones when you can. Even VP Bank someone mentioned was free

I’ve been traveling across Vietnam for three weeks and tried several ATMs with my Wise Visa debit card. The only bank I found that didn’t charge a local ATM fee was TPBank. I used one of their purple ATMs inside Aeon Mall Hanoi Long Bien, and the screen even confirmed “0 VND fee.” Withdrawal limit was around 5 million VND. Most other banks like Vietcombank or Techcombank charge between 30,000-60,000 VND per transaction. TPBank seems to be the most traveler-friendly option right now just make sure to decline currency conversion on screen and choose to be charged in VND.

With my German Hanseatic card, I withdrew from VP Bank in Vietnam with no fees - great experience.

VP Bank in Vietnam has been the most reliable for me - smooth withdrawals and no hidden fees.
