Had this happen in Palawan at an RCBC ATM. I didn’t know what to do so I flagged a guard nearby and he gave me the branch manager’s number. I called and she told me to go in the next day. But because the ATM wasn’t attached to their branch and I was using a foreign card, they said it would not be returned. They offered to write a letter confirming it was secured and destroyed for my bank. I called Wise and got a replacement sent to my next destination.

Just got back from Davao where I had my N26 card eaten by a Landbank ATM. I was lucky it was attached to a bank. Went in the next morning and gave them the exact time and location and they were able to check their logs. The teller said they open the machines twice a week to collect stuck cards. I got mine back after three days. If the ATM is near a bank office and you go in fast with ID, you’ve got a decent shot.

This happened to me at a Metrobank ATM in Manila. The machine just froze and kept my US debit card. I called the hotline number on the ATM and they gave me a case number and told me to visit the branch where the ATM was located. When I got there, the staff said they could not give me the card back because it was a foreign card. They said it would be destroyed for security. I had to cancel the card and use my backup. If you’re using a non-Filipino card, there’s a chance they won’t return it.

Same thing happened to me in Cebu last year. My BPI ATM swallowed my Wise card late in the evening. I went to the nearest BPI branch the next morning with my passport and explained what happened. They confirmed the ATM was theirs and told me to come back in two days after they opened the machine. I got the card back but only because I reported it quickly and had my ID. If the ATM is near a branch, go there right away with your passport and tell them the time and exact location.
