Is it safe to withdraw cash in Argentina or not?
Argentina’s ATM network is solid but comes with quirks - fees are high, limits are low, and USD withdrawals aren’t common. I always withdrew earlier in the day just to avoid roaming too far at night with cash in hand.
I withdrew pesos late one evening in Mendoza. Used an ATM near the central plaza that was still open. A security guard was standing nearby. Everything worked fine, but I noticed someone observing nearby, which made me rush the transaction.
While in Córdoba, I tried to use a Banco Nación ATM after dinner, but it was out of cash - apparently common here. Locals told me machines often empty quickly in the evenings. You may need to try multiple banks.
In Buenos Aires, I used a Banco Galicia ATM in Palermo after 10 PM. The street was busy, and the ATM was enclosed within glass doors that locked after use. The system felt secure, though the withdrawal limit was low. ATM safety in Argentina at night depends on the neighborhood - Palermo and Recoleta were fine.
