Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Suriname or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.

Used an ATM near a gas station in Nieuw Nickerie after dark. It worked, but I noticed a group watching nearby. Felt uneasy and left quickly. Cash withdrawal tips for Suriname: use ATMs inside supermarkets or bank lobbies, preferably during the day. Night use is possible but not ideal.

While exploring Paramaribo’s colonial center, I tried using an ATM around 10 PM, but it was shut down. Locals explained that many ATMs go offline overnight as a precaution. If you’re traveling to interior towns, stock up on cash in the city before heading out.

I stayed near the Waterkant and used a De Surinaamsche Bank (DSB) ATM after dinner - no issues, but the area emptied out quickly. Withdrawing cash in Suriname at night can feel risky if you're alone. Bring cash from the airport or withdraw during busy hours if possible.

In Paramaribo, I used a Republic Bank ATM near the Palmentuin park around 8:45 PM. The area was calm and well-lit, but a few local friends warned me to avoid flashing cash at night. ATM use in Suriname after dark is okay in busy streets, but avoid secluded zones or machines without cameras.
