Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Chile or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.
Chile’s ATM infrastructure is pretty modern. I used Banco de Chile ATMs regularly near my campus. Pulled cash out at 11 PM once after a concert - no problems. Still, the trick is to avoid using machines on empty side streets. In terms of ATM safety at night in Chile, it’s more about avoiding isolated spots than fearing crime.
We were traveling from Puerto Montt down to Coyhaique and learned quickly that ATM access shrinks after 5 PM. Night use wasn’t unsafe per se, but most machines in smaller towns like Castro or Chaiten just didn’t work late. We planned all our cash runs during the day - and even then, some ran out of pesos.
Valparaíso is gorgeous but tricky at night. I used a Scotiabank ATM around 8:30 PM on Avenida Argentina. It worked, but a guy stood nearby just watching - gave me chills. I walked fast. Daytime withdrawals felt safer. Chile is safe in parts, but coastal towns can get unpredictable after dark. Always be alert.
ATM safety at night in Chile, especially Santiago, is pretty solid. I used BancoEstado ATMs near Bellavista several times around 10 PM - decent lighting, people around, no issues. As a remote worker, I loved the flexibility, but always stuck to bank-attached machines. Skimming still happens, so avoid sketchy standalone kiosks.
No queue at Banco de Chile today. Got my cash fast. But it isnt safe at night, lots of shady people around.
BancoEstado ATM was simple to use. No hassle. But I wouldn t go here at night
Easy access to Banco Internacional ATM. Convenient. Defo don t use it in the night, not safe
even though quick transaction at ITAU. In and out fast. But I did not find it safe at 8 pm
