I’ve been on a west coast trip and found that most bank-owned ATMs will accept foreign cards but charge between $3 and $5 per transaction. The best experience I had was with Truist Bank ATMs - $3 per transaction was their fee - worked well with my HSBC card. I tried a random ATM in Las Vegas that looked like it belonged in a casino lobby and they wanted $7.95 for a single withdrawal. Definitely stick to big-name banks and avoid ATM networks that are inside gas stations, pharmacies or major retail chains. And always take cash out in one larger amount to avoid repeating fees.

As someone who’s traveled a lot across the US, I always look for ATMs from from one of the Federal Credit Unions - Capital Credit Union being one of them. They never charge an atm fee. All other bank ATMs do:
Citibank - $3
Citizens Bank - $3 to $3.5
Capital One - $3
TD Bank - $3
PNC - $3.75
M&T Bank - 3.5

I used my N26 card with no problem. I avoid Bank of America ($4 ATM fee).

I definitely avoid the bank ATMs at fuel stations and grocery stores - e.g. i was shocked that a M&T bank ATM at a fuel station wanted $6.95 atm fee and a standalone one wanted only #3.5 fee. You'll be able to get $200 to $500 in one transaction depending on how much cash the atm has at the time.

I visited New York and LA recently and had great experiences using my UK Revolut card at Capital One ATMs. There is a 3 USD fee which is ok and no hidden conversion nonsense. Also tried a Chase ATM once and they showed a $3.5 fee so I cancelled it. I found Capital One and some Citibank locations most friendly to foreign cards - Citibank also had 3 USD fee. I usually withdraw $300 at a time to make it cost-effective. Decline any prompt to be charged in your home currency and choose USD for the best exchange rate.

I’ve used foreign cards all over the US and found that Allpoint and MoneyPass network ATMs are usually the most reliable and least expensive for withdrawals. I use my European debit card and stick to ATMs inside CVS, Walgreens, or Target - many of them are part of the Allpoint network and don’t charge a local fee and my bank has a tie-up with Allpoint hence no fees. Always avoid standalone machines at gas stations or tourist traps like in Times Square or Vegas Strip - they’ll hit you with fees of $5 or more per withdrawal.

Found an ATM inside the Alamo Car Rental office in the US - worked fine.

Publix Grocery stores in the southeastern US have ATMs that usually dont charge fees and support many card types.

No fee was charged when using Paysign in the US - multiple free withdrawals confirmed.

Again, Paysign card worked for free ATM withdrawals - no extra cost.
