Is it safe to withdraw cash in Puerto Rico or not?
Some locals advised against using machines in quiet areas after 9 PM. In Condado, I felt fine, but in other suburbs it might be a different story. Stick to tourist districts for late-night withdrawals.
I relied on an ATM inside a Walgreens that was open 24/7. Puerto Rico has plenty of these chain store machines that feel secure and are almost always working. Super convenient after dark.
Withdrawn money at night in Ponce using a FirstBank machine near a hotel. Well-lit, people nearby, and no problem with my card. As long as you avoid isolated neighborhoods, nighttime ATM use is pretty standard here.
In San Juan, I used a Banco Popular ATM near Calle Fortaleza at around 11 PM. The area was still busy, and the machine worked perfectly. ATM safety at night in Puerto Rico felt no different than mainland U.S. - just stay in populated areas.
