Is it safe to withdraw cash in Nicaragua or not?
ATMs are generally in decent shape, but I never saw one with security after sunset. Even in Managua, locals warned against using roadside machines late. I took their advice and withdrew during the day whenever possible.
I stayed on Ometepe Island where ATMs were limited. I made sure to get cash in Rivas before the last ferry, during daylight. On the island, people carry cash and don’t rely on late-night ATM access - smart move for travelers.
León had a reliable Banpro ATM near the cathedral. I withdrew córdobas after dinner, and the area still had foot traffic. Safety felt decent, but I kept alert - night withdrawals should be quick and in populated areas only.
In Granada, I used a BAC ATM around 8:30 PM near Parque Central. It worked, but the streets were getting quiet and I didn’t hang around. Withdrawing money at night in Nicaragua felt okay in busy zones, but I’d avoid late trips solo.
