Is it safe to withdraw cash in Jamaica or not?

While out near Negril’s beach road, I noticed very few ATMs open after 9 PM. I used one earlier in the day instead. The vibe at night is chill for tourists, but walking around with cash didn’t feel smart.

I asked a hotel receptionist in Ocho Rios if it was okay to withdraw cash at night - they advised against it unless the ATM was in a guarded location. Ended up using the hotel’s own machine, which felt much safer.

In Montego Bay, I used a Scotiabank ATM inside a mall that had security. The machine worked well and I didn’t feel unsafe, but I wouldn’t recommend roadside or standalone ATMs after dark. Locals tend to avoid them too.

In Kingston, I withdrew cash from an NCB ATM around 8:30 PM outside a gas station. It was lit but had almost no one around. Withdrawing money in Jamaica at night made me cautious - I stayed hyper-aware and kept the transaction quick.
