Is it safe to withdraw cash in Guadeloupe or not?
The machine at my guesthouse's partner bank shut down at 8 PM. The staff said machines often run out of bills overnight. It’s best to plan withdrawals during the day to avoid both safety concerns and availability issues.
Most ATMs on the island are part of French banks like Banque Postale or BRED. I found one still active after 10 PM, but the area was silent, and I didn’t love that. Guadeloupe doesn’t feel dangerous, but caution goes a long way at night.
I was staying in Le Gosier and used an ATM across from the beach promenade after dinner. It worked, accepted my foreign card, and there were others using it. I wouldn’t walk far with cash after dark, but the ATM itself felt fine.
In Pointe-à-Pitre, I used a Credit Agricole ATM around 9 PM. It was next to a supermarket with a few people still shopping, and the area was decently lit. Withdrawing money at night in Guadeloupe felt okay in that moment, though most locals prefer daytime banking.
