Is it safe to withdraw cash in Cuba or not?
Cuba’s ATM network is limited and inconsistent. While you can withdraw money at night in Havana, it’s better not to depend on that. Most travelers I met carried enough cash to avoid night runs altogether.
Used a Banco de Credito ATM near the Malecón just after dinner. There was a short queue and locals chatting nearby. The vibe was laid-back. I didn’t feel at risk, but I was also mindful not to flash my card or wallet.
Tried to withdraw cash late in Trinidad, but the ATM was either empty or offline. Staff at my casa particular said it’s common. Machines here are often unreliable at night. Bring enough euros or USD to exchange when banks are open.
In Havana, I used a Banco Metropolitano ATM on Calle Obispo at 9 PM. The street was well-lit, with music and tourists around. The machine dispensed CUPs, but there was a withdrawal cap. ATM safety at night in Cuba depends on location - tourist zones felt fine, but locals still prefer early hours.
