Is it safe to withdraw cash in Antigua and Barbuda or not?
Used a Republic Bank ATM inside a gas station store just before it closed at 9:30 PM. There was good lighting and a few people around. Antigua’s atmosphere felt easygoing, and I didn’t sense any threat.
On Barbuda, I didn’t see any ATM options at night. Most people deal in cash and advise travelers to withdraw enough in Antigua before taking the ferry. ATM access is minimal on the smaller island, especially in the evenings.
The ATM outside a grocery store in Dickenson Bay was operational even at 10 PM. It accepted my foreign debit card and dispensed Eastern Caribbean dollars without issue. I was staying nearby, so walking back didn’t feel risky at all.
I withdrew cash in St. John’s from an ECAB ATM near Heritage Quay after 9 PM. There were still people around, and the area felt tourist-friendly. ATM safety at night in Antigua is decent in the city, but locals suggested avoiding quiet beaches or neighborhoods after dark.
