Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Montserrat or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.
Montserrat has almost no street crime, so night withdrawals aren’t dangerous - they’re just impractical. I used the Bank of Montserrat ATM during daylight hours only. After 6 or 7 PM, most of the island is quiet. Plan to get cash before dinner, and you’ll have no issues.
I was in Salem and drove to the nearest ATM one evening - it was closed. The island is super laid-back, but everything shuts down early. While I never felt unsafe, I wouldn’t recommend relying on nighttime ATM access. Always carry enough cash for evening meals or taxis.
Stayed in Little Bay and went out looking for cash around 9 PM - no luck. There aren’t many ATMs on the island, and even fewer operate late. Locals told me most banking is done during the day. If you’re heading to Montserrat, bring enough Eastern Caribbean dollars upfront or withdraw during business hours.
Montserrat felt peaceful, but ATM access is limited. I withdrew cash from the Royal Bank of Canada ATM in Brades around 8:30 PM. The area was quiet but safe. ATM safety at night in Montserrat isn’t really the issue - it’s whether the machine works or is open. Most travelers get cash earlier in the day or at the airport in Antigua before arriving.
