Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Aruba or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.
I worked remotely from Aruba for a month and never had a bad experience withdrawing cash at night. Most of the ATMs near high-end resorts and malls are active late. However, avoid the standalone ATMs near gas stations - a few expats told me about skimming issues. If you’re pulling cash late, stick to big bank ATMs in well-lit tourist zones.
Used the Banco di Caribe ATM near Oranjestad marina twice - once around 10 PM. Smooth and safe, but I always made sure it was in a well-trafficked zone. Aruba is relatively secure, but like anywhere, withdrawing cash after dark is smarter in hotel zones or near casinos where security is present.
I’m a budget traveler and stayed in San Nicolas. Night withdrawals weren’t ideal there - streets were quiet and the ATM outside a supermarket had no lighting. I stuck to daytime cash runs after that. Aruba’s main tourist areas like Eagle Beach are safer for after-dark activity, but the more local neighborhoods shut down early and feel too empty for comfort.
ATM safety at night in Aruba wasn’t a concern for me. I used the RBC Royal Bank ATM on Palm Beach Road around 11 PM - plenty of people, lights, and even a security guard nearby. Felt just as safe as daytime. As a solo traveler, I appreciated that most commercial zones are active late. Just don’t wander too far inland or use isolated machines.
