Trying to plan ahead so any know if card payments are common at hostels in Jersey UK or cash is king?
Jersey was very straightforward. My hostel in St Helier only accepted card, and even preferred it. I had a Revolut card and it worked instantly. I barely touched the cash I withdrew from a NatWest ATM. For hostels specifically, Jersey is card-driven, so you don’t have to worry about ATM runs unless you prefer cash for personal use.
My experience in Jersey: card all the way. The hostel I stayed in had a modern contactless terminal and didn’t want cash. I also noticed that supermarkets and buses are card-ready. If you’re planning ahead, you can expect to pay by card for accommodation. Still, keep some pounds on you in case you stumble across a cash-only café or pub.
In Jersey, I didn’t really use cash for hostels at all. The one I booked in St Helier processed my Visa smoothly. Even a countryside guesthouse accepted card. Honestly, I carried cash just in case, but it mostly went untouched. ATMs from Barclays and HSBC are around, but you won’t need them for hostel check-in.
Jersey is very card-ready, and hostels are no exception. I stayed at a hostel in St Helier and paid with my Mastercard at check-in. Even smaller places along the coast were fine with card. Lloyds and HSBC ATMs are easy to find in St Helier if you want backup cash, but for accommodation, card is definitely the norm.
