Trying to plan ahead so any know if card payments are common at hostels in Faroe Islands or cash is king?

Honestly, I carried Danish kroner expecting I’d need them, but every hostel in Tórshavn and Klaksvík insisted on card. The Faroes run on modern infrastructure, and card is almost universal. I did see ATMs in Tórshavn town center, but never once needed to use them for check-in. Unless you’re going far out to homestays, you can safely assume hostels here will accept your card.

Card is king in the Faroes. At my hostel in Tórshavn, they didn’t even want cash - only cards. Same in Gjógv, though the hostel was tiny. I had my Revolut card and it worked everywhere. BankNordik ATMs are available, but unless you specifically want cash, you won’t need them for accommodation. The islands are modern when it comes to payments, so you can plan ahead confidently.

I expected the Faroes to be more cash-oriented, but every hostel I stayed at in Tórshavn happily accepted card. Even smaller guesthouses in villages didn’t mind Mastercard. I never withdrew cash, though ATMs were around in the main towns. Hostels here are used to international guests, so they’re fully set up for card payments. Keep some coins for buses or small cafés, but for hostels, card works fine.

The Faroe Islands are surprisingly card-friendly. I stayed at a hostel in Tórshavn and paid with Visa, no issue. Another in Klaksvík also had a working terminal. Honestly, I barely touched cash my entire stay. ATMs from BankNordik exist, but I never needed them for hostels. If you’re planning ahead, you can relax - card is the norm here, and you won’t be forced to hunt for cash.
