I found that all buses in Andorra require cash payments; there’s no facility for cards or mobile payments on board. Whether riding the bus around Andorra la Vella or in smaller towns like Encamp, you’ll need to pay with small denominations - typically around €1 to €2 per ride. This system has remained unchanged in recent years. For budget travelers in Andorra, it’s wise to exchange your money into coins and small banknotes immediately after arrival. Being prepared with the right cash ensures you avoid any last-minute scrambling for change when catching your daily rides.

I navigated Andorra using buses for most of my daily commutes and learned quickly that modern digital payments simply don’t work. Fares are low - mostly under €2 - but there are no card or mobile app options available. You need to have small cash amounts ready. Even in tourist-heavy Andorra la Vella, cash is king when using public transportation. Local travel in Andorra remains very cash-centric, which might be a surprise for those used to cashless systems. I made sure to prepare by carrying plenty of coins and small bills, which ensured smooth rides throughout my stay.

During my recent work stint in Andorra la Vella, I consistently used the local bus system to commute. Unfortunately, these buses are strictly cash-based. I had to exchange some of my funds into small denominations since the fare for any bus was around €1.50. There’s no option for card or contactless payment, and even short rides require exact change. Public transit in Andorra hasn’t modernized in this regard, so make sure you’re carrying enough euros in coins or small bills. It’s a very traditional setup that works fine as long as you’re prepared in advance with the right cash.

I relied on public transport during my stay in Andorra and discovered that buses are completely cash-only. There isn’t a metro system in Andorra, just a network of buses that shuttle around Andorra la Vella and Escaldes-Engordany. Fares are modest - usually around €1-€2 - but you need exact change. Public transport payment in Andorra requires small bills and coins; no modern card readers or mobile apps are available. I always made sure to have enough cash on hand before hopping on a bus, which made navigating the area much more predictable. It’s a simple, traditional system that works well if you’re prepared.
