I need to take out quite a bit of cash during my trip. Anyone know cheapest ATMs & daily withdrawal limits for foreign cards at the UK ATMs?

Here’s how I get £1,000+ in cash cheaply:
First, use Wise/Revolut - Free withdrawals up to 200 dollars / euros a month (then 0.5-2% fee).
Second, Withdraw large sums at Post Office - No fees, and staff can help if the ATM rejects you.
Third, carry a backup card - My Schwab debit refunds all ATM fees worldwide.
Biggest mistake? Assuming all ATMs are equal - check fees on screen before confirming!

If you’re taking out £500+, go to:
Metro Bank - No fees, allows £1,000+ per transaction.
NatWest or Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS): £300-£500 per withdrawal, but no extra charges.
Avoid standalone ATMs (like at airports) - they cap at £250 and charge fees.
Warning: Some UK ATMs refuse large withdrawals for foreign cards. call your bank first to raise limits temporarily.

Your daily limit depends on your home bank, not the UK ATM. For example:

Chase (US): $1,000/day ( approx. 800 pounds)

Wise: 1,000 pounds /day (but check your plan)

Revolut: £200-£3,000 (varies by tier)
Workaround: If you need more, split withdrawals across multiple days or use two different cards.

ALL Bank ATMs are the Cheapest ATMs in the UK - name it - Barclays, Natwest, HSBC, Nationwide, Lloyds, TSB, Metro Bank have no fees, high limits (£500+ per withdrawal for international cards). Post Office ATMS also have free withdrawals, but limits vary by card issuer.
DO NOT USE Euronet/ICE - Huge fees (up to £5 per withdrawal) + terrible exchange rates.
Pro tip: Use bank-branded ATMs (Barclays, HSBC, Lloyds) and always decline DCC (Dynamic Currency Conversion).

Used a CashZone ATM (Budgens) in the UK - operated by Allpoint/Cardtronics. Both debit and credit cards worked.

CashZone ATM in the UK charged me a £2.95 service fee just to withdraw cash - worked fine, but that fee hurts.

Halifax main branch in the UK is my go-to. I use both Visa and Mastercard there regularly with no issues.

Barclays has sleek blue ATMs all over the UK. No fees, very modern.
