I need to take out quite a bit of cash during my trip. Anyone know cheapest ATMs & daily withdrawal limits for foreign cards at Slovakia ATMs?
Needed about €800 cash early in my trip, so I used the VÚB machine near the Bratislava bus station. I withdrew €400 twice. They allowed up to three transactions daily, so that's €1,200 potential, but I capped at €800. Each withdrawal cost me €2.90, which I thought reasonable compared to Euronet at around €5. My advice: use Slovenská sporiteľňa, Tatra banka, VÚB or OTP branch ATMs - better rates and limits.
I tested a Slovenská sporiteľňa ATM and a VÚB ATM in Košice this spring. Both limit foreign withdrawals to €200 per transaction. Fee wise, they charge Slovak bank fee €2.50 plus whatever your home bank adds. Euronet machines charge up to €5 per withdrawal - avoid those if you’re especially cash-heavy.
In Bratislava last month, I used Tatra banka and Slovenská sporiteľňa ATMs. They had withdrawal limits of €200-500 per transaction, Tatra bank was fee-free for us. So we sticke to this most of the time. My Santander debit card only incurred that local fee; no extra currency penalty. I withdrew every 3-4 days to avoid multiple fees. Note that daily card issuer limits at home may actually be tighter.
I used an 365.bank and Primabank ATM in Žilina in May,both of them don't charge!!! Withdraw up to 200Euro, is not much but totally fine for travelling through slovakia. 🙂
