On a budget and looking for free ATMs in Switzerland - Any top banks?
I compared UBS, PostFinance, and Credit Suisse during a month in Zurich. I used my N26 and Wisecard and never got charged fees. Withdraw up to CHF1K. Didnt needed more cash
My best experience was with Raiffeisenbank ATMs - I used one in Lausanne and one in Lucerne. No added fee, even for two withdrawals in a day. Limit was up to 1,000 CHF per pull, but your card provider might cap it. Coop Bank also didn’t charge me anything, but those ATMs are a bit harder to find outside major towns.
In Basel, I stuck to UBS and Credit Suisse ATMs. Neither charged me extra, and I got the interbank rate with my Revolut card. Daily limit was about 800-1,000 CHF depending on the machine. I tested an ATM at a convenience store once, and it slapped a 5 CHF fee on me. Lesson: always use ATMs connected to actual Swiss banks - they’re usually fee-free.
For me, PostFinance ATMs were consistently the cheapest - no added Swiss-side fees, and I could withdraw up to 1,000 CHF per day. My bank at home charged a small fee, but the ATM itself didn’t. Avoid Euronet - they charge crazy fees and offer terrible exchange rates. Best strategy: find ATMs inside proper bank branches.
