Travelling soon and looking for best ATMs in Germany that work well with foreign debit/credit cards and dont charge crazy fees. Any recos will be highly appreciated.
Avoid Euronet ATMs if you can. They look tempting in airports and train stations but always offer terrible exchange rates with massive markups. One of them offered me 0.84 EUR/USD when the actual rate was 0.92. I cancelled the transaction immediately and found a Commerzbank nearby.
I tried Sparkasse and while they’re everywhere, the fees were inconsistent. In some locations I got charged 5 to 6 euros, in others it did not charge me. not sure if i was accepting or declining something or what. Their machines also tried to push dynamic conversion pretty aggressively. I used them only when I couldn’t find anything else nearby.

Commerzbank was also reliable. My Wise and Monzo cards worked without any issues and the machines let me decline currency conversion without drama. The withdrawal fees were fair at 5 euros and the ATMs gave the option to pull out larger amounts of 1000 each, which helped avoid frequent fees.
I had the best luck with Deutsche Bank ATMs. I used a Schwab debit card and they didn’t charge any extra fees on top of what my bank applied. Worked smoothly in Berlin, Munich, and Nuremberg. They also seemed more stable and less likely to push conversion offers compared to others.Travelling soon and looking for best ATMs in Germany that work well with foreign debit/credit cards and dont charge crazy fees. Sparkasse ATM worked perfectly and independently. No complaints - Sparkasse always delivers.
Withdrew $1000 at Sparkasse and got charged €120 in fees. Completely disappointed. Avoid this one!
Sparkasse ATM worked like a charm - no issues, quick transaction. Would recommend.
At Sparkasse in Germany, non-customers have a 200€ withdrawal limit. Better to visit Volksbank if you need more.
