Trying to avoid paying crazy ATM fees while traveling in San Marino. Anyone found ATMs that are free for foreign cards? Would love specific banks or locations if possible.

Since San Marino uses the euro, you’ll be withdrawing from Italian banks. The most reliable ATMs are from Banca di San Marino and Cassa di Risparmio di San Marino. My Wise Mastercard worked at Banca di San Marino with a €500 limit and no local fee. Machines are spread around the historic center but not as common as in nearby Rimini, so it’s best to withdraw before arriving if possible. Always reject dynamic currency conversion when prompted to avoid losing money.

Didn’t expect to pay €5 just to get my own money, but that’s what I got at the first ATM by the cable car station. Second try at Agricola- same story. Took out €1000 and that was the limit anyway. I didn’t find any magical fee-free machine, but the trick is always declining conversion and taking out more at once. Or just grab cash in Italy before coming up the hill - wish I had.

Used San Marino and Agricola with my Wise Card from Germany. Both of those ATM didnt charge me any fees. ATMs where super easy to use, clean Interface and all. Able to withdraw up to Euro 1000, never did it because I dont like to walk around with that amount of money.

Used a Revolut card at CD Risparmio and Banca Agricola. Fee was €5 and €6 each time, regardless of amount. I declined DCC and my home bank handled the rate better. Max I could take out was €1000 per transaction. I didn’t see any fee-free ATMs, but machines inside the banks felt more trustworthy. Just avoid those standalone machines near tourist shops - they charged €8 and tried to sneak in conversion too.

Honestly, every ATM I tried charged something. Used CD Risparmio, Agricola and San Marino - ALL had around €5-€6 fees per withdrawal. Declined conversion and it helped, but still, no “free” ATM. Withdrawal limits were around €1000per go on my Visa debit. Tried smaller amounts and still got dinged the same flat fee, so I just pulled larger chunks less often. Bring a low-fee card or eat the cost.
