Is it safe to withdraw cash in Malta or not?

I used ATMs on Gozo as well - very functional, and most were still accessible past 10 PM. Malta’s overall infrastructure is great for tourists, and nighttime withdrawals don’t raise any red flags.

Mdina goes very quiet after dark, and while I found an ATM, the whole town felt deserted. I wouldn’t call it unsafe, just eerie. Better to sort cash in busier hubs like St. Julian’s or Valletta.

In Sliema, I used a HSBC ATM near the promenade just after dinner. The whole street was lit up and full of cafes. Transaction was quick, and the machine gave me a fee-free breakdown. I’d use it again without hesitation.

I withdrew euros from a BOV ATM in Valletta’s city center at 11 PM. Tourists were still walking around, and it felt completely safe. ATM safety at night in Malta is on par with most of Western Europe - very low risk, especially in popular areas.
