Is it safe to withdraw cash in Iceland or not?

Even in smaller villages, ATMs are maintained and accessible. I withdrew money in Hvolsvöllur one night and walked back with cash in hand - didn’t see a single person, but never felt worried. Iceland at night is just quiet, not threatening.

Iceland is largely cashless. That said, I used an ATM once just to have local currency for hot springs and rural shops. Pulled money out around 10 PM with no issue whatsoever. Very modern infrastructure.

Used a Landsbankinn ATM at a gas station in Akureyri after dinner. The town was quiet but serene. Machine worked, accepted my Visa card, and the transaction took 30 seconds. Iceland’s crime rates are extremely low - I never felt unsafe, even solo.

In Reykjavik, I withdrew ISK from an Arion Bank ATM at 11 PM after a concert. Streets were still lively, and the area felt completely safe. ATM safety in Iceland at night isn’t something you need to think twice about - very traveler-friendly.

Not bad overall. Arion Bank ATM was decent and easy to use and felt secure there was a camera

Arion Bank is solid - usually feels safe. Everything worked as expected.
