Is it safe to withdraw cash in Denmark or not?
Most travelers in Denmark rarely use cash, and I didn’t either. But I tried a nighttime withdrawal just to test - worked fine, no issues. Machines are fast, reliable, and street crime is almost nonexistent.
I withdrew money in Odense after leaving a late dinner spot. The street was quiet, but well-lit and tidy. The ATM was embedded into a grocery store wall and had multilingual options. Never felt watched or rushed - which is rare in many cities.
I tried to find a Danske Bank ATM in Aarhus late evening, and it worked flawlessly. Denmark is increasingly cashless, but when you need it, ATMs are modern and secure. Just know that most locals tap everything instead of carrying bills.
In Copenhagen, I withdrew money from a Nordea ATM near the Central Station at 10:30 PM. There were still cyclists, people out and about, and zero tension in the air. ATM safety in Denmark after dark is incredibly high - I felt totally secure even walking with cash.
