Is it safe to withdraw cash in Belarus or not?
I stayed in a quiet neighborhood in Brest and avoided using ATMs at night simply because there weren’t many open. It didn’t feel unsafe, just inconvenient.
Minsk felt very orderly - I used a BPS-Sberbank ATM across from a late-night pharmacy and had no trouble. Most machines are embedded into buildings, not free-standing, which added to the sense of safety. Street lighting was decent even in side lanes.
I tried a Priorbank ATM near my hotel in Grodno just after 9 PM. The interface had English, and it worked - but the surrounding streets were nearly empty. Locals said late withdrawals are rare, not dangerous, just uncommon due to how early shops close.
In Minsk, I withdrew cash from a Belinvestbank ATM around 10 PM. The area near Victory Square was quiet but well-monitored, with some foot traffic still around. The machine accepted my Mastercard and dispensed Belarusian rubles without issues. ATM use at night in Belarus is low-risk in central areas.
