Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Ukraine or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.
I was staying near a student hostel in Kyiv and often used the ATM outside a Silpo grocery store. Even late, there were people around, and transactions were smooth. Card support was solid across different banks.
In Kharkiv, I walked a bit too far from the main square to find an ATM at 9:30 PM. The area got quieter and less lit, and I felt a little exposed. The machine worked fine, but the surrounding atmosphere definitely influenced how fast I grabbed my cash.
While in Lviv, I needed cash late after a festival event. I found a Raiffeisen ATM inside a shopping center - still open, well-lit, and safe. The city’s western regions felt calm, and most ATMs offered language selection. I had no trouble navigating the interface.
In Kyiv, I used an OTP Bank ATM on Khreshchatyk around 10 PM. The street was still lively, with cafes open and security nearby. The machine was fast, accepted Visa, and displayed English. ATM safety in Ukraine after dark felt no different than in major European cities - though the ongoing situation means dynamics may change quickly.
