Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Estonia or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.
Took a ferry from Helsinki and stayed a few nights in Tallinn’s Telliskivi district. Withdrew euros from an ATM near Balti Jaam around 10 PM - smooth and safe. Estonia is very traveler-friendly and has low crime rates. Most ATMs work well and are located in easy-to-spot areas. I’d rank Estonia among the safest countries in Europe for night ATM use.
I worked remotely from Tallinn for a month and often withdrew cash late from LHV or Coop Bank ATMs. The city is quiet but secure, even past midnight. Estonia has a strong police presence, and ATMs tend to be located in safe, commercial zones. Withdrawing cash after dark is no big deal - just skip the independent kiosk-style machines.
During a trip to Tartu, I needed cash after dinner and found a Swedbank ATM near the university. It was clean, bright, and felt totally secure. Estonia has one of the best digital banking systems in Europe, but if you need to withdraw after dark, it’s completely fine in populated areas. Just don’t expect much street activity in smaller towns.
Tallinn is one of the safest cities I’ve visited. I withdrew cash from a SEB ATM near the Old Town at 11 PM - well-lit, people out walking, no concerns. ATM safety at night in Estonia is excellent in urban areas. Just stick to bank-operated machines and avoid Euronet ATMs, which charge high fees and are placed in odd spots.
