Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Czech Republic or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.
The Czech Republic has great ATM coverage, but I always time my cash withdrawals for midday. Tried once in Karlovy Vary late in the evening, and the ATM worked fine, but the street was too quiet. Not unsafe, but not worth the paranoia. Safer to plan during regular hours, and use contactless cards for smaller purchases.
I withdrew money late once, outside a TESCO branch that had a Česká spořitelna ATM. Quiet but still some foot traffic. The town is super safe, and people mind their own business. I’ve never had an issue withdrawing cash at night in smaller Czech cities - just avoid really empty alleys and stick to known brands.
I visited Brno and pulled cash from a Komerční banka ATM at 9:30 PM. There were students around, and the street had solid lighting. No issues. If you're withdrawing cash after dark in the Czech Republic, use ATMs near chain supermarkets or cafes. Avoid those unmonitored yellow Euronet machines - bad rates and no security.
Used an ATM in Prague’s Žižkov district at 11 PM. There were people around, bars still open, and it felt fine. The machine was ČSOB and didn’t charge me extra. ATM safety at night in Czech Republic is generally good, but I always skip ATMs near train stations - sketchier crowd late at night. City center ones are better maintained and better lit.
