The ATM just swallowed my debit card and didnt return it. This was in Austria, close to where Im staying. Any idea if local banks can help? Help SOS how to get it back

It happened to me with a BAWAG P.S.K. ATM near Linz’s old town. I rang the number on the screen, headed to the branch with my passport and ATM slip - my card was returned within hours. Local Austrian banks typically store swallowed cards for retrieval, but you must visit during branch hours. Always freeze your card immediately to protect against fraud.

My debit card vanished into Raiffeisen Bank’s ATM outside Salzburg Hauptbahnhof. They kept it in a secure bin and retrieved it by lunch the next day. I showed my passport and withdrawal form, and it was seamless. ATM card recovery in Austria is effective when the card is taken by a registered bank machine. Just freeze it afterward and keep tracking.

That happened to me at an Erste Bank ATM in the Vienna city center. I reported it through Erste’s 24-hour hotline and went to the branch with my ID the following day. They confirmed the card had been retained and returned it after verifying identity. Retrieving a swallowed debit card in Austria works best at bank branch ATMs. Stand-alone machines offer less recourse.

My Visa card got eaten by a Sparkasse ATM near Mariahilfer Straße. I called Sparkasse’s customer hotline immediately and visited the branch the next morning with my passport and transaction slip. They pulled it from their retention safe and handed it back within hours. Bank ATM card retrieval in Austria is straightforward - especially with Sparkasse, Erste, Raiffeisen, or BAWAG. Acting quickly during bank hours is key.
