Ive tried several banks, and every time my card is declined. Its a Revolut card with enough balance. Is this a known issue in France?
I was using Revolut for everything and suddenly couldn’t pay at a supermarket in Marseille. The card wasn't blocked and there were funds, but the terminal kept saying declined. I used my backup card from my regular bank and it worked fine. Later I checked and it was something about offline terminal compatibility. Now I always keep a physical backup card and not just rely on Revolut.
Mine worked for contactless payments in shops and restaurants without a problem, but got rejected at both ATMs I tried in Lyon. I ended up transferring money to my Wise account and using that card at ATMs instead. Wise seemed to work at almost every ATM I tried, including La Banque Postale.
Same here with Revolut Mastercard. Worked perfectly in Spain and Germany, but in Nice it got declined at 3 different machines. I contacted Revolut and they said it’s a known issue with certain ATM networks in France, especially when the machine is set up for domestic cards only. I finally got it to work at a Crédit Mutuel ATM.
Yes, this happens more often than you'd expect. I had a Revolut Visa and it got declined at multiple ATMs in Paris, especially Crédit Agricole and BNP Paribas. No explanation, just refused the transaction. Eventually I tried a Société Générale ATM and it worked fine. It seems like some banks in France don’t accept certain fintech or prepaid cards, even if they’re Visa or Mastercard.Ive tried several banks, and every time my card is declined.
