My card was taken by an ATM near my hotel in Slovenia. Has this happened to anyone else? Solution?

Yes, it happened to me in Ljubljana Old Town, at an NLB Bank ATM near Prešeren Square. The card was retained and the staff told me they would destroy it. In Slovenia, banks usually don’t hand back foreign cards. Cancel immediately and rely on your backup. Stick to NLB, Abanka, or SKB Bank ATMs inside branches. Avoid Euronet ATMs around tourist areas - they charge high fees and sometimes malfunction. Carry some euro cash for small cafés or bus fares, especially outside Ljubljana.

Yes, happened to me too near Tivoli Park. I didn’t know what to do at first, but there was a local walking by who said to go straight to the bank with my passport. They were nice and told me to come back next day after they emptied the machine. I got the card back but lost half a day figuring it out. Now I try to withdraw during banking hours only and carry a small stash of euros just in case.

It happened to me at a Sparkasse ATM in Maribor - my Revolut card got stuck, and the screen froze. I called the number on the machine, and they directed me to the nearest branch. Staff there were helpful and confirmed they retrieve stuck cards daily, but only return them with ID. It took 48 hours to get mine back. Since then, I use ATMs only during banking hours and always at major branches - much less stress if anything goes wrong.

I lost my card in a Nova KBM ATM near Lake Bled. I panicked at first but someone at my hostel said it happens often with foreign cards. I went to the bank the next day and explained what happened - they asked for ID and returned it within two days. I had a backup card luckily, but definitely freeze the lost one in your app just in case. And if you can't get to the branch quickly, assume it’s gone.

Yes, this happened to me outside an NLB bank in Ljubljana. The ATM didn’t show an error, just didn’t return the card. I went into the branch the next morning with my passport, and they had it behind the counter. Apparently, they collect captured cards during the daily check. If it’s a bank-owned ATM, definitely visit the branch in person. If it’s a third-party one (like Euronet), it’s harder - you’ll need to call their helpline and probably won’t get it back.
