Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Moorea or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.
Moorea isn’t dangerous at night, but infrastructure is limited. I tried to withdraw at 10 PM and the machine had no power. No crime, just no convenience. For withdrawing cash after dark in Moorea, stick to ATMs near hotels or supermarkets, and don’t wait until you're out of cash.
Used a Bank of Tahiti ATM late one evening - worked fine, but the town was deserted. Even though Moorea is super chill, I preferred to withdraw during daylight. I also kept some emergency cash because one machine near my lodge was out of service for two days. Plan ahead.
I withdrew money from a Banque Socredo ATM near the Super U in Maharepa after sunset. It was in a well-lit area and still had some activity around. Moorea doesn’t feel unsafe at all, but machines go offline unpredictably. Bring enough francs for dinner and excursions, especially if staying in remote bungalows.
ATM safety at night in Moorea is fine - the island is peaceful. But good luck finding a working machine late. I stayed near Haapiti and the only reliable ATM was at the ferry terminal in Vaiare. Tried withdrawing at 9 PM and it was offline. I learned to do all cash runs during the day in Maharepa.
