Trying to avoid paying crazy ATM fees while traveling in India. Anyone found ATMs that are free for foreign cards? Would love specific banks or locations if possible.
I used Bank of India, Federal Bank, DCB Bank and IDFC First Bank and also DBS Bank. Bank of India was fee-free. Federal, DCB and IDFC all of them charged me 200 rupees. DBS would only accept visa but also charged me 200 rupees. could only withdraw 10,000 at a time but i made 2-3 withdrawals. Bank of India did not accept one of my cards, but another it did from UK. careful - all of them will ask you to Accept Conversion - just press Without Conversion.

ICICI Bank charged me 200 rupees for a 10000 rupees withdrawal, ridiculous. axis bank was charging 300 rupees. what a scam. kotak and indusind bank also charge a similar amount. but icici bank was everywhere in the north of india so it was convenient and their machines were modern and easy to undestand.

Usually the public sector banks are all free - State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Canara Bank, IDBI Bank - the ones I used did not charge any extra fees. State Bank of India is the biggest.
Visited an SBI ATM in India but it was closed at the time.
Tried an SBI ATM in India - ive noticed that there are lots of SBI ATMs in the country but especially in small towns and smaller lanes, these ones either don't have money or are not operational
