Is it safe to withdraw cash in Macau or not?

Machines are bilingual, and I didn’t face any technical issues. Just be aware that some ATMs only dispense MOP, while others give HKD. I confirmed this during a late-night withdrawal in Taipa. Safety-wise, it’s among the safest cities in Asia.

I stayed near Senado Square and used an ATM around 11 PM with no concerns. Macau is extremely urban and secure, with most ATMs located in busy or camera-covered spots. Still, I avoided carrying large amounts of cash.

In the old town, I found an ICBC ATM just outside a 7-Eleven. It worked perfectly with my international card, and the area was well-lit and full of tourists. Macau has heavy foot traffic even late at night, so ATMs are easy to use safely.

I used a BOC (Bank of China) ATM in Cotai around 10:30 PM, inside a hotel complex. The lighting, surveillance, and general safety made it feel very secure. Withdrawing cash after dark in Macau is no problem in major areas.
