Is it safe to withdraw cash in Israel or not?
Withdrawing money from ATMs in Israel after dark is totally fine in main towns. I used a Discount Bank machine near the Tel Aviv beach promenade - it was contactless, clean, and even showed fee breakdowns before processing.
While traveling through Jerusalem’s Old City, most ATMs I came across were either closed by 9 PM or tucked inside small shops. I waited till morning to avoid getting stuck. Israel is safe, but some zones are quieter at night than expected.
I was in Haifa and used a Mizrahi Tefahot ATM inside a 24-hour pharmacy after dinner. It felt safe and convenient, with locals using it too. Nighttime ATM access isn’t an issue in Israel’s urban centers - just avoid machines in completely deserted alleys.
In Tel Aviv, I withdrew shekels from a Leumi ATM near Dizengoff Square just after 10 PM. The street was buzzing, and the ATM had great lighting and clear signage. ATM safety at night in Israel felt as secure as any major European city. English menus were standard, too.
