Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in Tajikistan or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.

Tajikistan’s ATM network is improving, but there’s a huge gap between Dushanbe and the rest of the country. At night, machines may be out of order or shut down due to low demand. Is it safe to withdraw money in Tajikistan at night? Sometimes, yes - but daytime is definitely wiser.

I tried using a Spitamen Bank ATM in Dushanbe after dinner, and it worked - but the street was dim and mostly empty. Withdrawing cash after dark in Tajikistan is technically possible in central areas, but it’s not common practice. Locals generally visit banks during daylight for better safety and service.

I stayed in Khujand, and after 8 PM, most ATMs were either offline or had long queues. Machines often reject foreign cards after hours. Cash withdrawal tips in Tajikistan: plan ahead and always carry USD as backup - especially outside major cities, where nighttime access is unreliable.

In Dushanbe, I used an Orienbank ATM near Rudaki Avenue around 9 PM. There was still traffic, and I felt safe, but locals advised me to withdraw cash during the day due to occasional power cuts. ATM safety in Tajikistan at night is mixed - cities are okay, but rural areas can feel tense.
