Is it okay to use ATMs late in the evening in India or should I stick to daytime withdrawals only? I am a single woman travelling so want to be safe.

Had a weird experience at an atm in rajasthan - was super remote and usually only one person is allowed inside the small ATM cabin. i used Bank of Baroda. But ive noticed that people dont wait outside while you are withdrawing cash, the next person just walks in and stands while you finish. it was just weird. i dint want to say anmyhitng so i quickly took my cash and left. it did not feel like the guy was trying to steal, its just the general way people are here. one of my friends had the same experience and she in fact did tell another lady to step outside while she got her cash and that lady did go outside. i think the other problem is also that the ATM cabins have like 2-3 machines at the same time so there might be other people also using it.
it should be fine... never had a problem. just don't use an ATM in a totally isolated area where you see no one around or get an erry feeling. otherwise pretty much was safe for me across the north. Delhi and Gurgaon definitely felt unsafe in general but not specifically near any ATM.

Ah India is so huge, totally depends on which area you used the ATM, but i did not find a single ATM unsafe even in the remotest of locations in Kerala - most of them have security cameras - SBI, Bank of Baroda, ICICI, HDFC, Kotak you name it.
Bank of India ATM was easy to use and instructions were clear. Avoid using it at night - felt unsafe due to shady crowd.
Axis Bank ATM - a security guard was present.
Unimoni ATM above a bakery. Only open during business hours and located on the first floor - not ideal for late access.
Same HDFC ATM - worked fine with my HDFC Mastercard. Open but unmanned, so not ideal late at night.
HDFC Bank ATM in India accepted my Debit Mastercard. No security guard at night, so better during daytime.
