Can I use a card to pay for taxis in Côte d'Ivoire, or should I carry local cash?
I took multiple taxis in Abidjan this April and every single one was cash-only. Even the more modern-looking ones didn’t have card machines, and when I asked, most drivers just laughed and said “argent liquide.” There’s no Uber or Bolt here either it’s mostly hailing cars on the street or using local taxi apps like Yango, which do allow digital payment. But if you're paying in person, bring small CFA notes, ideally in 1,000s and 2,000s, since many drivers won’t have change for bigger bills.
