Is it safe to withdraw cash in Comoros or not?

I stayed in a small hotel that warned me about ATM hours and power outages. Their tip to avoid nighttime withdrawals came in handy - I never saw anyone else use one after dark the entire trip.

ATMs were scarce, and even in the daytime I had trouble finding one that accepted foreign cards. After dark, the streets go quiet quickly. I always withdrew enough during the day to avoid having to look for cash later.

Most ATMs in Comoros are in banks that close early. I couldn’t find any accessible machines after 8 PM outside of Moroni. Locals carry cash and often advise travelers to do the same - especially since outages are common.

In Moroni, I used a BFC Bank ATM near the harbor. It was around 8:15 PM - streetlights were weak, and the area was nearly empty. The machine worked, but I wouldn’t recommend making cash withdrawals after dark here. ATM use in Comoros at night is possible but best avoided unless necessary.
