My card was taken by an ATM near my hotel in Zimbabwe. Has this happened to anyone else? Solution?

Had my debit card taken by a Stanbic ATM in Mutare. Security guard helped me call the bank, but they said retrieval takes 5 working days. I was leaving the next morning. Had to use Western Union for emergency funds. Lesson learned: always have some USD stashed away and never rely on one card only.

Lost a Visa card at an FBC ATM in Vic Falls two months ago. Luckily I always carry a backup card. I contacted FBC support on WhatsApp and went to their branch with ID. Took 3 business days to get it back. My advice: never travel with just one card and always enable international hotlines for your bank app. Zimbabwe ATMs glitch a lot.

My card was swallowed by a CABS machine in Bulawayo this April. I took a photo of the machine ID, called the branch hotline, and they retrieved it within 48 hours after verifying my passport. Very professional service. Just stay calm, document everything, and don’t try force-removing the card. It’s not uncommon in Zimbabwe - network glitches are frequent.

Yep, same thing happened at a CBZ ATM in Harare near the Cresta Lodge. Card went in, screen froze, then nothing. No staff nearby. Called the bank’s customer service - no response. Ended up blocking the card through my Revolut app. If this happens, don’t wait - freeze the card ASAP and hit the branch the next morning with your passport.
